Last week, I had the privilege of attending the 21st East African Magistrates and Judges Association (EAMJA) Conference in the heart of Tanzania—Arusha. While the conference sessions were intellectually stimulating, what truly left a mark on me was the unmatched Tanzanian hospitality.
From the moment I arrived, it was evident that our hosts had gone above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and celebrated. Each evening held something special:

- A Cocktail Night: Picture a room buzzing with energy, laughter echoing in every corner, and a dance floor alive with movement. We danced the night away, forging connections beyond the professional realm.
- A Gala Dinner: This was a night of elegance and sophistication. Dressed to impress, we gathered to share a sumptuous meal, accompanied by delightful conversations and live entertainment.
- Sports Day: A day dedicated to relaxation and camaraderie, filled with activities that brought out our competitive yet playful sides.

However, the highlight of the trip for me was the excursion day to the breathtaking Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Spending a day surrounded by nature’s splendor was nothing short of magical. From the rolling plains to the shimmering soda lakes, the scenery was awe-inspiring. We observed wildlife in their natural habitat—majestic lions, graceful zebras, and towering elephants. The experience culminated in a bush lunch that was as exquisite as the views around us.

Fun Facts About Ngorongoro Conservation Area

- 🌋 It’s home to the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive and intact volcanic caldera.
- 🦁 The area boasts a dense population of wildlife, including the Big Five: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffalos.
- 🌍 It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a globally significant ecosystem.
- 🐦 Bird enthusiasts will delight in spotting over 500 species of birds, including flamingos on the crater lakes.
- 🌿 It’s not just about wildlife—the Ngorongoro region is rich in cultural heritage, being home to the Maasai people, who live in harmony with nature.

Exploring Arusha
Arusha itself is a gem of a destination. Beyond Ngorongoro, here are some must-visit spots:
- Mount Meru: Tanzania’s second-highest peak offers incredible hiking opportunities.
- Arusha National Park: Perfect for a day safari with stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
- Cultural Heritage Centre: A treasure trove of art, crafts, and Tanzanian history.
- Local Markets: Explore vibrant markets for authentic spices, fabrics, and souvenirs.
Why I’ll Be Back

This trip wasn’t just about attending a conference—it was a masterclass in how to host with grace, creativity, and warmth. The Tanzanians showed me the power of thoughtful planning, cultural immersion, and creating memorable experiences.
As I look back on my time in Arusha, I’m inspired to bring these lessons home—to cultivate connection, celebrate diversity, and embrace the beauty of shared experiences. Tanzania, with its rich culture and hospitality, has a special place in my heart, and I’m already planning my next visit.
I hope the photos have tried to capture this unforgettable journey. 🌍
